Having grown up in the silence of the darkroom, she has explored various photographic styles before finding her own means of expression in self-portraiture and the forms of nature. Her work explores themes linked to roots, identity and memory, gradually opening up to a vision in which the distinction between the subject and the world becomes blurred.
Her Corsican roots have profoundly influenced her sensibility: the island where she grew up until her teenage years continues to permeate her work through its atmospheres, contrasts, light and texture.
For her, the self-portrait becomes an instinctive space for experimentation, in which the body serves as an instrument for listening and for moving through. Each project arises from a process of perception and inner transformation that translates into a visual narrative capable of going beyond the individual story, opening up to a broader, shared dimension of experience.
Artist’s statement
Laetitia Farellacci’s photographic practice stems from a ‘practice of presence’. Photography, particularly through the self-portrait, becomes a space of passage in which the body – as it becomes the subject – is also a ‘place of listening, transformation and surrender’. The work focuses on what happens when pre-established definitions become less rigid and form becomes permeable.
Her practice investigates the relationship between the body, time and matter, exploring moments in which the subject sets aside their sense of self and allows themselves to be swept up in the experience.
Photography is a threshold: an act that embraces change, impermanence and the loss of control.
Each image is the trace of a lived experience, an exercise in mindfulness that invites us to set aside roles, personal narratives and expectations. The body, understood as a temporary presence, can lose its centrality to the point of becoming an imprint, shedding its original material form and making way for a broader relationship between presence, time and experience.
In this dialogue between the internal and the external, photography is a way of exploring our existence in the world as a continuous movement.
Not the ‘what’, but the ‘how’. Not the image, but the quality of the presence that permeates it.
