Tandava

Tandava is the Sanskrit name for Shiva’s cosmic dance: a dance of creation and destruction, of birth and dissolution.

I encountered her through the body, during an experience of listening and practice. A meditation in motion, in which there was no specific form to seek, but rather something to listen to and allow to unfold.

I danced. I let my body move before I even knew where to go.

Then there was something left.

A rhythm. A clue. The feeling that, in order to create, one first had to let go.

That’s where these images came from.

An attempt to explore that movement once again, this time through photography. To tell the story of what remains when boundaries become more blurred, when something breaks, dissolves and can take shape once more.

Creation and destruction.

Construction and dissolution.

One beat, then another.
